Fourteen Consecutive Record Months
AJAX, ON – December 1, 2011

For the fourteenth consecutive month, new vehicle sales at Volkswagen Canada have set a record. A total of 4,015 cars were sold at Canadian Dealerships during the month of November, bettering last year’s mark of 3,934.
Through the first eleven months of the year, 49,039 Volkswagens have been sold, an 18% increase over the same period in 2010. This figure has already established 2011 as the most successful in the company’s 59 year history in Canada.
"With ample supply of the new Passat at our Dealers, along with the recent introduction of the Beetle, Tiguan and Jetta GLI, our product lineup is broad enough to appeal to most Canadian car shoppers," stated John White, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada.
Leading the way continues to be the Jetta, which posted sales of 1,855 during the month. Year-to-date, 25,142 have been sold, making it one of the top-selling cars in Canada.
The 2012 Passat is now available in Dealerships across the country. Larger and with a much lower price tag, the new Passat was recently named Motor Trend magazine’s Car of the Year. With November sales of 454 reflecting a 114% increase over last year’s figure, it appears that Canadian car buyers have already caught on. Available from $23,975, the Passat offers a choice of three engines, including the award-winning TDI Clean Diesel.

Auto Pilot system combines other driver-assistance function and is able to drive the car alone at speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph)

Volkswagen is using its research subsidies wisely.
The German automaker is working on a system called Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP) which can semi-automatically drive a car on its own under limited conditions.
TAP works by combining other functions like ACC adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist (which helps keep the car within a lane) into an integrated system. Always monitored by the driver, and always leaving her/him the ability to override the system when needed, TAP can drive a car 'semi-automatically' at speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph) on a highway.
The system was developed by VW as part of the EU funded R&D project HAVEit ("Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transport") where the TAP system was presented as a complete project.
Said Volkswagen's Executive Director for Research, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Leohold:
"[This is] an important milestone on the path towards fully automatic and accident-free driving."

TDI Tiguan

Won't come until the redesigned model is launched

The United States has been stuck with a petrol-powered Tiguan, but increasing demand for diesel engines could force Volkswagen to offer a TDI variant.
VW product planner John Ryan revealed the model is under consideration but there are currently a few holdups. First and foremost, the current 2.0-liter TDI engine - that is offered in the Golf TDI and Jetta TDI - would have to be equipped with an expensive urea-based catalyst system to meet U.S. emission standards. While the company already uses that type of system on the Touareg TDI, the cost would make a Tiguan TDI prohibitively expensive.
Even those issues were resolved; strong TDI demand in Europe has pushed American availability to the backburner.
Despite the problems, Ryan hinted that Volkswagen might iron out the obstacles when the next-generation Tiguan is introduced in 2015.

Second Consecutive All-time Record for Volkswagen Canada

With a total of 5,776 sales during the month of May, Volkswagen Canada has recorded its eighth consecutive record month. The figure broke the previous mark; set in April, for the highest single sales month in the company’s history, and was 26% above last year’s performance. Year-to-date, total sales of 21,936 are 19% above the same period last year.
The brand continues to be led by the all-new 2011 Jetta. In May alone, 2,964 new Jettas were delivered, and with a year-to-date total of 11,486, the Jetta has already sold more units than it did throughout all of last year.
Some 604 Tiguan compact sport utilities found new homes during the month, and sales of the Golf family, including the hatchback, wagon and sporty GTI numbered 1,593.
The “Volksfest” sales program, which has contributed to the outstanding results by offering very competitive financing and leasing, continues through the month of June.
Featuring a wide range of vehicles in virtually all segments, the combination of sportiness, safety and value has elevated Volkswagen to the top of many Canadians’ shopping lists. A range of engines, including the award winning TDI Clean Diesel, deliver excellent fuel economy while providing robust performance in a fun-to-drive package.

VW Golf GTI Cabriolet Concept

Following its unveiling at Wörthersee 2011 along with the Golf R Cabriolet, Volkswagen has released new information about the Golf GTI Cabriolet concept.
The car features an aggressive GTI body kit, a lowered suspension and front/rear spoilers. Other highlights include gloss black accents, red brake calipers and 19-inch alloy wheels.
To spruce up the cabin, designers added Nappa leather upholstery, two-tone seat belts, and aluminum door sill plates.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter TSI engine that develops 208 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. It enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately seven seconds, before hitting a top speed of roughly 240 km/h.

Cross Passat variant rides on a raised chassis and features 4Motion all-wheel drive

These are the first spy shots of the upcoming 2012 Volkswagen Cross Passat.
This Cross Passat prototype was spied conducting some testing in Germany and we can see the car is riding on a raised chassis and features some matte black paneling around the bottom of the car beneath that camo. The wheel arches also appear to be widened.
The Cross Passat variant will come with Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive technology and will likely be coupled to the range's higher-output engine variants such as the 2.0 liter TDI with 125 kW / 170 PS (167 bhp) and the 2.0 TFSI with 155 kW / 211 PS (207 bhp).

VW may build Tiguan in North America

VW needs to expand North American production in order to reach its sales targets there profitably

It's no secret that VW wants to expand its production in North America beyond the current Passat, Jetta and Beetle models.

The German automaker has just christened a new plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee to build the North American-spec Passat (aka NMS) model, which is larger and cheaper than the Euro-spec Passat, and has a very ambitious plan to reach 1 million unit sales of its Audi and VW brand cars in North America by 2018. In order to do that, and do it profitably, it is going to need more local production. VW Group has been hit hard in North America due to declining sales of the VW brand and a strong euro which has hurt the profitability of its premium brand Audi which produces its vehicles in Europe.

According to German business magazine Wirtschafts Woche, VW is considering the Tiguan model for production at either the Chattanooga plant or the Pueblo plant in Mexico, where the Jetta and Beetle are assembled, to increase volume and sales of the model while reducing its costs of production. If VW pulls the trigger on North American production for the Tiguan, it would likely start in 2013.

Since its launch in 2007, the compact SUV Tiguan has sold more than 700,000 total unit’s world wide. The Tiguan received a facelift just this past February and the next-generation is due around 2013.

Volkswagen creates edible ad for the Golf R

Mmm... advertising

Volkswagen has been known to use some pretty memorable ads, but their latest effort certainly takes the cake.
Designed to promote the Golf R in South Africa, the edible "Eat the Road" ad was prominently featured in several local automotive magazines. While there's no word on how it tastes, the ad was made with glutinous rice flour, water, salt, propylene glycol FD&C color and glycerin.

Did You Know About the Volkswagen Golf

Visit vwtoronto.ca

Golf

The Volkswagen Golf is a small family car manufactured by Volkswagen since 1974 and marketed worldwide across six generations, in various body configurations and under various names such as the Volkswagen Rabbit  MK1 AND MK5(only in Canada and the United Sates) and the Volkswagen Caribe MK1(Mexico)

The front wheel drive Golf was the first replacement for the air-cooled VW Beetle. It’s Volkswagen's best-selling model and the world's third best-selling model, with more than 25 million built by 2007.
Production of the Golf was initially in the 3-door hatchback style. Other variants include a 5-door hatchback, wagon (Variant, from 1993), convertible (Cabriolet and Cabrio, 1979–2002), and a Golf-derived notchback saloon/sedan, variously called Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Vento or Volkswagen Bora (from 1979). The cars have filled many market segments, from basic personal cars, to high-performance hot hatches.

The Golf name is derived from the German word for Gulf Stream. It was named during the period in its history when VW named vehicles after prominent winds, including the Passat (after the German word for Trade wind), Jetta (after the Jet stream), Bora (after Bora) and Scirocco (after Sirocco). "Golf" is also a sport, a theme that is shared with the Volkswagen Polo.

Golf/ Rabbit  Mk1(A1/Typ 17) (1974–1984)May 1974, Volkswagen presented the first-generation Golf as a modern front-wheel-drive, replacement for the VW Beetle.
Later Golf variations included;
• Golf GTI "hot hatch" (June 1976)
• Diesel-powered version (September 1976)
• Jetta notchback saloon version (October 1979)
• Golf Cabriolet (January, 1980)
• Golf-based pickup, VW Caddy
• Golf Mk1 was sold as the Rabbit in the U.S and Canada
• And the Volkswagen Caribe in Mexico.
• A face-lifted version of the Golf Mk1 was produced in South Africa as the Citi Golf from 1984 to 2009.

Golf Mk2 (A2/Typ 19E) (1983–1992) September 1983 VW introduced the second-generation Mk2 that grew in terms of wheelbase, exterior and interior dimensions while staying in a more rounded form, the Mk1's overall look.
In 1985, the first Golf with four-wheel-drive (Golf Country) went on sale with the same Syncro four-wheel drive system being employed on the supercharged G60 models, exclusively released in 1989 with 160 BHP (120 kW) and ABS braking.
A Mk2-based second generation Jetta was unveiled in January 1984. There was no Mk2-based Cabriolet model; instead, the Mk1 Cabriolet was continued over the Mk2's entire production run.

Golf Mk3 (A3/Typ 1H) (1991–1999) The third-generation Golf Mk3 made its market début in August 1991 and again grew slightly in comparison with its immediate predecessor, while its wheelbase remained unchanged.
New engines included the first Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine in a Golf, and a narrow-angle 2.8 L VR6 engine.
For the first time ever, the Golf estate (Golf Variant/Golf Wagon) joined the line-up in September 1993 (although markets didn’t receive this model until early 1994), at the same time a completely new Mk3 Cabriolet was introduced, replacing the 13-year-old Mk1-based version.
With a similar body style to the Golf, it was continued until 2001 with only minor changes in 1999. The notchback version, called VW Vento (or Jetta III in North America), was presented in January 1992.

Golf Mk4 (A4/Typ 1J) (1997–2006) The Golf Mk4 was introduced in August 1997, followed by a notchback version (VW Bora or, in North America, VW Jetta) in August 1998 and a new Golf Variant (Wagon) in March 1999.
There was no Mk4 Cabriolet, although the Mk3 Cabriolet received a facelift in late 1999 that comprised bumpers, grill and headlights similar to those of the MK 4 models. New high-performance models introduced in 2004 was the 3.2 L VR6 engined four-wheel drive  Golf R32 .

A 2.8 L four-wheel drive Golf VR6 4Motion version available succeeding the Mk3 VR6 which only had front-wheel drive, as well as the famous 1.8T (turbo) 4-cylinder used in various Volkswagen Group models.
As of 2008, certain versions of the Golf/Bora Mk4 were still in production in Brazil, China, and Mexico. Revised versions of the Mk4 are currently on sale in Canada marketed as the City Golf and City Jetta in 2009. They received a significant re-moldeling for the 2008 model year, including revised headlamps, taillamps, front and rear fascias, sound systems, and wheels. The production of Golf Mk4 for the U.S. market ended in 2006. But in the European markets, the production ended in 2003.

Because of the MK4's popularity and low cost, it is still in production in several countries, such as Brazil and Argentina.

Golf Mk5 (A5/Typ 1K) (2003–2009) In Germany, the VW Golf Mk4 was succeeded by the Golf Mk5 in 2003. This model did not reach the North American markets until model year 2006, where it was the Rabbit. The GTI version is powered by a turbocharged version of the 2.0 FSI engine, producing 200PS.
Volkswagen also introduced the "Fast" marketing ploy for the North American market, dedicated to the "fast" that lives inside every driver. Drivers who purchase new GTI Mk5s from a dealership are shipped a model of said Fast, which employs GTI-like features.
The sedan(saloon) version, again called Volkswagen Jetta in most markets and assembled in Germany, South Africa, as well as Mexico (In Mexico it is named Bora, in Europe again named Jetta) followed in 2004, a new Golf Variant (wagon) in 2006. The Jetta however, is not the only variant, as the notchback version of the GTI can also be had in the GLI version. The front ends of the car are the same, with the only difference being that the GLI is a sedan, while the GTI is a "hot hatch".
The Volkswagen Golf Plus model was also introduced in 2004. This was a slightly larger version of the Golf Mk5 with a higher roofline.

Golf Mk6 (A6/Typ 5K) (2009–present)Volkswagen based the latest Golf Mk6 on the existing PQ35 platform from the Golf Mk5.
The design is more aerodynamic, helping fuel efficiency, and is quieter than its predecessor. Volkswagen opted to overhaul the interior to match the quality with the Mk4 Golf, while maintaining the same user friendliness from the Mk5. The car is also cheaper to build than its predecessor; and will be able to pass these savings on to the customer.
The Mk6 Golf was introduced for sale in the UK in January 2009. The car was introduced in North America in October 2009 as the 2010 Golf, rather than Rabbit. The Mk6 Golf also reintroduces the North American market to an available diesel engine in the Golf.

In April 2010 Kelley Blue Book included the VW Golf TDI (clean diesel) among its Top 10 Green Cars for 2010.

How do I move the wipers out of the way to clean the base of the windshield on my new VW?

The windshield wipers will move to the service position if you switch the ignition on briefly, switch it off again, then press the windshield wiper lever down on the steering column. Once in the service position, the base of the windshield is easily accessible for cleaning and the wipers can be moved away from the glass so that they do not freeze to the windshield. You can find more information on this feature in sections 3.1 and 3.2 of your Owner’s Manual.

Volkswagen Passat Replacement To Debut At 2011 North American International Auto Show

Volkswagen‘s New Midsize Sedan will debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit this month, as part of VW’ quest to increase sales in American to 800,000 units by 2018.

The NMS, like its smaller sibling, was designed with the North American market in mind, and will compete head-to-head with the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. This has caused concern for loyal Volkswagen fans, but the company cites the move to a larger, more American-like vehicle as necessary if Volkswagen is to increase volume in the United States.
Volkswagen will also build the car at its new facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Pricing is expected to start at around $20,000, and both gasoline and diesel powertrains will be offered.

Record December Sales Put Finishing Touches on Record Year
AJAX, ON – January 4, 2011

Volkswagen Canada has rung in the New Year with style,
posting its best-ever sales results for both the month and year. December’s total sales of 3,737
represented the company’s all-time best for the month. The yearly total of 45,388 eclipsed the
previous record; set in 2001, by over 2,000 units.
Leading the charge has been the tremendous performance of the all-new 2011 Jetta. In
December, a total of 2,150 found their way onto Canadian driveways, a figure 190% better than
last year’s result. The Jetta has been completely redesigned; and is larger than the previous
model, yet is more fuel efficient thanks to reduced weight and superior engineering.
Sales of the Golf continue to be strong, numbering 397 for the month. The Golf Wagon posted
sales of 287, and the Golf GTI reported 103. As a whole, the Golf Family sold at a rate 98%
better than the previous year.
Consumer support of Volkswagen's equipped with TDI Clean Diesel technology has shown
impressive strength, and these models now make up 29% of the total volume of all new
Volkswagen sales. This award-winning technology is now available on the new Jetta, Golf, and
the all-new Touareg sport utility. TDI Clean Diesel engines utilize cutting edge technology,
which results in high mileage and tremendous vehicle range. Environmental responsibility does
not take a back seat, nor does the same fun to drive feeling found on all Volkswagen's.
